Vet Vs The Net: Why does my cat keep being sick?
It’s never nice to see your much-loved pet being sick. If only you could figure out what was causing it. Thankfully for us, Jenny the vet has some answers…
So, why is your cat being sick?
There are many reasons! Sadly, our cats can’t tell us how they feel, what they ate when they were out in the garden or if their food tasted a bit funny earlier on. For this reason, you should take your cat to the vets if they are vomiting repeatedly – this is the only way of finding out what exactly has caused it.
Common causes of vomiting in cats
Common causes include:
- Fur balls
- A sensitive stomach
- A virus or illness
- Poisonous or allergenic substances
So it could be a parasite or foreign body, an infection or something they’ve eaten. Click here for more information on each of these causes of cat vomiting.
How can the vet help?
The vet will be able to perform tests to determine what is causing your cat to be sick. In extreme cases, this could include blood and urine tests, or even an x-ray. The vet will then decide on a treatment depending on what has caused the illness.
Note: contacting the vet is also useful because it gives them the chance to ask you questions about the condition, if your cat has eaten anything unusual, for example, or if their behaviour has been strange.
How to prevent sickness in my cat?
Sadly, accidents happen. You can reduce your cat’s chances of becoming ill as much as possible by keeping them up to date with their vaccinations and keeping poisonous or harmful substances out of their reach.
